Name Origins

Because I love procrastinating...

Aldenya is the name of a country on a map I drew for a book idea that has been floating in my head for a few years.

Cyradis is a seeress from the Mallorean, a series of books by David Eddings, one of my favourite authors.

Eolian comes from the name Aeolus, a Greek god and keeper of the winds.

Finiarel is an honorable elvish word from Eragon, meaning "young male of great promise".

Ilessa is the original name of one of the queens of the Nyissans, the snake people in the Belgariad and the Mallorean.

Isianzadi is a corrupted version of the name of the elf queen in Eragon.

Kiraya is the name by which my sister refers to herself. It is her penname and I haven't actually the slightest clue where it came from.

Sibrithil is...actually I just made this one up on a whim, based on one of the elvish languages I have heard.

Sionnan is a Gaelic form of my name.

Tiobraide is a Gaelic form of a family name.

Txori is a Basque name meaning "bird" (which made a lot more sense when he was a bird looking creature, but it is what it is...)

Vanyali is another word from the ancient language in Eragon, this time meaning "elf".

Almost all the other names I have come up with, Nedra, Belsambar, Belmakor, Wolset, Smyric, Aiedail, and a few others which I cannot recollect come from people in David Eddings novels or other fantasy novels. (Yeah, I might be a little obsessed.)
