I'd make the female shoes the same as the guy, provide a mouth and nose covering for both to keep out sand, goggles to keep out glare and sand, and probably a night version that will be warm considering that deserts get extremely cold at night, usually.
Otherwise, this is a great design.

I think they're quite good, I wish I had artistic skills like that! However if I were going into a desert arena I wouldn't want to be wearing sandals lol
