A parable I wrote
13 years, 3 months & 13 days ago
2nd Aug 2011 19:32 Have you ever lost someone close to you? Do you think about that person every day? Do you wish you cherished them more? I have, I lost someone I never thought I would lose so soon. It all started when I was 16.
I woke up to the screeching of my mother. "Amanda! Wake up or you'll be late for school!" I sighed and got out of bed. I walked into my walk-in closet. I grabbed my new chiffon dress. It was gray at the top, and the bottom was floral. I put it and studied my reflection. I had to admit, it looked good on me. And the dress made my green eyes pop. Next I brushed my hair and I braided a small piece in the front. I pinned it to the back of my hair while I left the rest down. Then I put on some charcoal eyeliner and some sparkly gold eyeliner. I brushed my teeth and walked down the stairs. I grabbed my backpack, put on my gray toms and yelled "Bye mom!" and rushed out the door. I heard her ask about breakfast but I ignored her.
I walked to the curb and saw my best friend Alison. She handed me my Cinnamon Crunch bagel and I nodded my thanks and we started to walk. As we were walking I thought about how we first became friends.
We were in 1st grade and the teacher gave us some sheets to color. As I took out my box of 64 Crayola crayons I noticed Alison sitting alone, miserable. I got up and sat down next to her, she looked up in surprise. I asked her what was wrong and she told me she left her crayons at home. I asked if she wanted to share with me. She nodded yes and from then on, we were the best of friends.
As I was thinking about our younger days, I heard someone yelling my name, interrupting my thoughts. I turned around to see Matt yelling "Amanda!" I exchanged a glance with Alison and said "Hi Matt." He finally caught up to us, panting. "Hey" he said "There's a party at Jason's tonight, you should come." I exchanged a glance with Alison and she was nodding vigorously. I noticed the excitement in her eyes. "Fine, we'll come. What time?" he told us 11:00 ad he ran off to his friends. As he ran away Alison said "Wow! I party at Jason's!" I felt her excitement. Jason's party were usually for seniors only. She gave me a knowing look and I turned away. We had known for awhile that Matt liked me. He was cute and all, but I wasn't interested in him that way.
I heard the warning bell ring and I said "Alison, I better go, I don't want to be late." and I ran off as she waved good-bye. I walked into Mr. Vanderver's room, knowing I was a minute from being late. I walked in and felt everyone's eyes on me. I walked into the back of the room and I took my normal seat in the back.
As I sat down, Cameron turned around and winked at me. I rolled my eyes at him. What a cheesy move I thought as I shook my head. I took out a piece of mint gum and started texting. I smiled to myself. Teachers took no notice of me.
After class I walked to the bathroom where Alison and I meet. She wasn't there so I took out my Cotton-candy lip gloss and out it on. After a while I knew it was time to go to my next class.
I sent a text to Alison and by lunch I hadn't heard from her. I started to worry. She always responds if she doesn't make it to our meetings. I was eating lunch with my friends Courtney and Ashely, when Alison burst into the lunch room. She was a mess. Her hair was everywhere, her eyeliner and mascara were running and her eyes were red and puffy. I gave her a questioning look but she grabbed my arm, dragged me out of the cafeteria and into the locker room.
Quietly she pulled out her phone and showed me a text. I read a loud "Alison, poor Alison. It's your time to die. I've noticed you and Amanda and I notice how you treat her. I can't take that. Amanda is nothing but kind and you throw her around like she's crap. Not anymore. You die tonight. Enjoy your last day." I looked up at her, scared. Then the idea came to mind. "Alison, after Jason's stay at my house, you'll be safe there." She reluctantly agreed. All day I was thinking about that note. Who could have wrote that? Why would someone want to hurt Alison?
After school I meet up with Alison. We nodded towards each other and we sprinted home. We didn't stop until we reached the door-step. I walked into the house panting. "Hi mom!" I yelled when I caught my breath and I ran up to my room. When Alison caught up, she sat down on my bed and put her head in her hands.
I gave her a hug and told her she would be ok. "No, it's not that. I don't have anything to wear." and I simply walked up to my closet, opened the doors, and gestured with my hands. Her eyes filled with hope "Really?" and I nodded and she ran into my closet. Just as I thought she picked put my floral spaghetti strap dress. She ran into my room to put it on. I smiled and started looking through my clothes. I picked up my pink ruffled dress, tried it on but threw it on the floor. After a while there was a good sized pile of rejects on the floor. Finally I found the right dress. I picked up my white belted tube dress. I put it on and knew it was perfect.
I walked into my room and Alison's jaw dropped, and she said "You look gorgeous!" I answered back "So do you." and she muttered her thanks. I grabbed my spiraler and Alison grabbed my straighter. We did our hair then I put on some black eyeliner, reapplied my lip gloss and eyeshadow, and put on some Daisy perfume. I inhaled the scent and it calmed me immediately. I looked at Alison and we were ready to go. I put on some black heels to match the black belt, while Alison wore my Silver ones. I grabbed my white purse, she grabbed my silver and we were ready to go. "Bye mom!" I yelled as I walked out the door. "Bye Amanda, bye Alison! Have fun!" Since I had gotten my license recently, I drove. When we got to Jason's house, I stopped the car, mouth agape. His house was huge! It was almost as big as a mansion! Alison looked nervous, and I became confident. Alison and I got out of the car. I walked onto the door-step, grabbed the handle, and walked in the house. When I opened the door, it was all quiet. I gave Alison a look and we walked to the back of the house.
When we got to the door that walked outside, I opened it. I stood frozen, there were bodies everywhere! And the first person who saw me was Matt. "AMANDA! YOU MADE IT!" "Yeah Matt. I made it." He looked at me for a minute and said "C'mon" and he grabbed my hand and Alison followed.
We were brought right up to the booth. Matt whispered into Jason's ear. He looked at Alison and I and said "Alright everyone, gather in the middle of the dance floor in a circle, we're gonna play spin the bottle." Alison looked a bit nervous. "It's fine, I doubt it will land on us." I was wrong. Jason was the first to spin. It landed on some girl. They shared a quick kiss and she rolled. It landed on Matt, they shared a quick kiss. Then Matt rolled and it landed on Alison. He wanted to go for a little longer, but she pulled away. She rolled and it landed on Jason. They kissed for a little while. They stopped and she whispered to me "I like him" when Jason rolled it landed on me. When I got up close, I realized how gorgeous he was. His blue eyes eyes glinted in the moonlight and his blonde hair fell just over his eyes. When we first started it was nothing. Then we got more into it. He was an amazing kisser! We lasted for what felt like nothing, when someone yelled "C'mon, this isn't Jason and Amanda make-out time!" We pulled away and he stared at me when I spun the bottle. It landed on some random senior. We kissed but it felt like nothing.
When I went back to my seat, I noticed Alison was gone. I got up and went to find her. I noticed her at the edge of the woods. "Alison? What are you doing?" when she turned I noticed the anger in her eyes. "You! You kissed Jason like he was your boyfriend! You kissed him way to intensely for a game! You only like him because I like him! You always copy the guys I like!" I stood bewildered. "Alison, that's not true and you know it." but she was already walking away, into the woods. "ALISON!" I screamed "DON'T GO IN THERE!" but she ignored me. I ran back back to the game. Maybe she would come back after a while.
Two hours later, Alison still wasn't back. I went to find someone who would come find her with me. "Jason!" he turned and smiled when he saw it was me "Hey I wondered where you went" and he leaned in to kiss me. "Not now. Alison ran into the woods and she's been gone for 2 hours. Come and help me find her!" Jason looked worried and we got to the beginning of the woods. "Well here it goes" and I pulled out my flashlight and walked into the woods. We searched around. "Amanda this is pointless. These woods are huge. We'll never find her."
I was about to give up when I saw my purse thrown in the bushes. I ran over to it with Jason on my heels. When we investigated, it looked like there had been a struggle. "Oh no!" I whispered in a quiet voice. Jason grabbed my hand and led me back to the party. As he called 911 I went up to the DJ booth. I told them about Alison, but I left out the part about her liking Jason. The police came just as I finished. Soon the fun party had turned into a search party.
We looked everywhere. I was alone, deep in the woods. I heard muffled screams in the distance. I followed them and they led to a hidden cave. I took a peek inside and I saw Alison! She was tied up and was bruised and bleeding. I looked around, but I couldn't call the police. I had to go alone. I walked in and crawled around the corner. When he was about to hit her again I yelled "STOP! DON'T HURT HER!" and I ran up and hit the person who was beating her. In a flash, he hit me in the head and I head screams growing faint. I feel to my knees and everything went dark.
When I woke up, everything was silent. I looked around the cave, confused. Then I remembered what had happened. I stood up and I tried to push away the dizziness. I stumbled out of the cave and saw a trail of blood. I followed it until I found her again. She was alone and I yelled "POLICE!" and I fell to the ground, knocked out.
When I woke up again I was in the hospital. I saw a nurse and Jason was standing over me. "Jason?" I muttered. He grabbed my hand "Yes Amanda it's me." I bolted up and asked "Where's Alison?" he winced and answered "Next door." I climbed out of bed and Jason supported me as I walked to Alison's room. There was a chair waiting for me. I sat down next to her bed. "Alison?" I asked. "Amanda?" she said. "Alison you're gonna be ok, you're gonna be ok." and I grabbed her hand. Alison shook her head, took a last desperate breath, and the line went flat.
I started at the place where I held her hand. A tear feel down my cheek. It landed on Alison's forehead. I watched the tear roll down her forehead, onto her nose, and onto her chin, where it got lost on my dress. Soon that one tear turned into sobs. Jason came up behind me and muttered comforting words. But nothing would work. Alison, my best friend, the person I shared everything with, was gone. And nothing would ever change that.
It's been two years since Alison died. But I see her everyday. I see her every time a flower blooms, I see her in every butterfly that fly's for that first time, I see her on my bed, laughing at a inside joke. I learned a terrible lesson from her death. I learned to cherish those that you love, because you never know if you'll see them again.
